Project Overview
The Project
A Christmas Carol is by far one of my most favourite books for the cold season. An old classic which I wanted to reimagine with a slightly modern approach but still keeping a certain nostalgia. By using a scissor-cut like style, I made sure to design a cover that’s modern yet truthful to the time of Dickens. It was essential to me to create a single interconnected scenery, stretching from cover over the spine and back of the book. Since death plays a vital role, I’ve decided to have the protagonist Scrooge to resemble the death theme and designed him in crookedly and in black and placed him in the centre of the cover in the otherwise calm snow-covered setting. This is furthermore supported by a handful of ravens placed around the cover. Red is symbolic for Christmas and love, which is absent in Ebeneezer and gives yet another reason why he’s black on the cover. Accompanying the cover art I’ve completely corrected and set the story with a clean and elegant editorial design and produced a limited number of handbound hardback copies. Oh and there’s even some packaging design and a lovely ad to wrap this fun project up nicely. Maybe I’ll publish it again for Christmas. Keep your eyes peeled for it. 😉
